My Minmatar Stabber

Big Guns - No Hits!

Big Guns - No Hits!

After chatting with a corp mate about my goals in Eve (maybe the topic of another blog post!), I decided I should start running a few missions to get my reputation up.

Now, the last missions I ever did were the epic missions that you’re a part of when you first start out in Eve Online… so I’m even more of a noob running missions than I am running ore (9 days left till I can use my next barge, by the way!).

Since the last missions I did had me dying a few times, I was a bit paranoid about losing yet more ships, and decided I would buy a cruiser and fit it out with a bunch of big heavy caliber artillery guns and obliterate my targets from a distance… Good idea in theory but not so great in practice!

What happened? Well, I forgot the rule that about the only thing that can hit frigates is frigates… Or more correctly, the only guns that can track fast enough to hit frigates are small class weapons… Long story short, I shot a lot of projectiles out into space and very few into my foe’s hull.

Lucky I had two missile launchers, because unless your opponent’s frigate is really, really fast, you can’t out run a missile, and I guess missiles “track” fast enough to hit a fast moving ship. Two missile launchers and a cruiser I’ve found are really good for low level missions – your shields and armor are just too thick for most opponents, and your missile launchers have enough punch to deal with most enemies.

I’ll definately be changing the load out soon though – I have 4 slots with medium weapons still, and when I have 4 small weapons I’ll be churning through frigates like nobody’s business.

Maybe I’ll leave ONE big gun on her though… just for looks ;-)

Another thing I think I’ll post on soon are these Loyalty Points you get from running missions, and what rewards you can get with them. It sounds very much like the rewards you get from PvP Battlegrounds in World of Warcraft… which is good! I’ll never have anything against reusing good ideas… :-)

    Hey Bud, Fox here again,
One thing I heard in eve with my corps is if you have high standing with any race, from running mission of course, you can planet your own POS, ” also known as a “Player Operated Station”, in thats race’s section of space. Three weeks, I’ll have a battle-cruiser known as the “Drake”, all decked out with T2 heavy missle launchers and shield tanked with all sorts of T2 shield- tools in my lows, and mids ship fitting slots. TTYL Fox Out.

CORRECTION ON EARLY COMMENT—The word “planet”, is suppose to be “plant” as in “Plant your own POS.”

Hey Fox – thanks again for stopping by to contribute, I’m learning a lot from you!

If you ever want to do a guest post about your corp or just your own Eve experiences I’d love to have them on my blog!

hehe, noobs are so funny. Missions are pants, pvp is what you need to be doing. the adrenaline buzz is addictive and never tires.

I sujest moving out to 0.0 get some experience, and ratting pays out much more than boring missions, unless its a cosmos mission of course. :)

Little note for foxbolt84, like my kill on one of your members :P

Be practicle with your ship fittings, never mix different race weapons on the wrong race of ship, stick to lazers on amarr ships rails on caldari ships, blasters on gallante etc. fitting other races weapons is silly as you do not get bonus’s on hit points etc,

For a stabber your better off with medium auto cannons with modules to improve the tracking on lows, howitzers for larger vessels.

If you get realy stuck look on battle clinic, also its a good idea to download the planning tool eve-mon.

And as for the comment reguarding pos’s you dont need high standings to anchor one. Im -9.9 but I have one. If you want it in high sec, be prepaired to have lots of isk to run it. you dont only need the fuel etc but you need charters.

and unless your planning on having more than 1 medium pos and doing reactions (scout for good moons 1st) or putting up a few advanced labs to invent etc) don’t bother. will eat up your corps wallet in no time..

I started this game in August 2005, I’ve been some very big alliances, lived in 0.0, I’ve seen Titans pop. I’ve ran 2 corps and my own alliance. Im a grunt now, in someone else’s corp. and much happier for it.

first: my english sucks, iam german :/
u can use “big gunz” to kill frigs with a simple trick:
u have to warp in by 50km or so (more than the optimal range of ur gunz)
or u use an ab and some overdrives to be faaast and then dont allow the frigs to orbit u.
then shoot the frigs, when they fly to you.
if there fly direktly to you, you can hit them with large gunz, the only problem is the signature radius, but you hit them heavy enought to instaplop them with large gunz.
