Day 7 – Corporations Equal Win

Welcome back, day 7 in Eve online was a real eye opener to corporations in Eve.

As you might know I joined a corp a few days ago now, but day 7 was the day I flew with my new buddies, and learned a few interesting things.

It seems that I’m in a “training corp”, which is actually a sort of a feeder system or screening corp, which of course also trains newbs like myself.

Why a training corp?

Eve is a game of political intrigue as much as it is about blowing each other up. You might have heard recently that the massive Band of Brother’s alliance was brough to its knees by GoonSwarm after a director turned against his former allies.

Listen to this amazing audio regarding the take over (strong language warning).

So back to the game… the corp I’m in is taking some basic security precautions by making people go through the newb training corp first, and I’m sure there’s a ton of other background checks they’re doing at the same time…!

Corporations=Win?

Yes they do! Much more so than guilds are handy in World of Warcraft, corporations are practically an essential in Eve online. If you want to engage in warfare with other players, corporations are key. If you want to become a trading or manufacturing mogul, corporations are key. If you want to do anything particularly “epic” in scale, or you want to be a PART of something epic, then you’ll want to join a corp.

Being part of something EPIC is to me the heart of Eve online.

If you want to kill trolls and dragons and get good gear, then World of Warcraft and other MMO’s are fantastic for that, and I love them for it… But Eve online’s major draw card for its users is quite certainly the extent to which its players can influence the game world, and really make a difference.

Corporations can control space, capture space, create alliances, disband alliances, engage in wars, build player created star bases, and much more.

Or corporations can “simply” help other corporations acheive the above…

Or they can annoy other parties involved in the above (hello pirates!)…

And I could go on forever. The point is, you’ll probably love Eve if you like the idea of being part of a game world where you can make an actual, real difference in the game world, and be involved in something BIG.

Check out Eve Online for yourself! You won’t be disappointed! (I hope)
